Death Of A Birkin: Artistic Or Stupidity?

Francesca Eastwood, daughter of Clint Eastwood, decided to take pictures with her boyfriend Tyler Shields and destroy a Birkin bag. The Birkin bag is one of the most coveted- if not the most coveted- luxury items in the world.

She would call it artistic but most have said that it was idiotic and, understandably, simply a publicity stunt. The publicity stunt claim comes from the disclaimer, "Make sure you check out MRS. EASTWOOD and COMPANY this SUNDAY and MONDAY NIGHT 10 PM on E!"

The Birkin is a status symbol, painstakingly handcrafted by highly trained Hermes artisans, hence the waiting list (which can run up to six years) and the price tag that can go up to $15,000. Therefore, destroying the Birkin is literally saying that you have money to burn, she does literally burn the Birkin. And bite it. And saw it in half.

As for my opinion on this matter... I think there's a fine line between artistic and stupidity. This display of vandalism to a Birkin that had so much effort put into it is way over the line and right into whatever word is worse than stupidity.
